Birds of Stirchley trail

Thank you to everyone who came along to the River Rea walk as part of Birmingham Heritage Week at the beginning of September. This followed six bird portraits by local artist Stephen Earl Rogers positioned in community gardens run by Fruit & Nut Village, and a talk on route about the history of the Rea in Stirchley by Jen Dixon, our Volunteer Coordinator.

Urgent action needed to save Stirchley Library

The Council has published a Phase 2 Consultation Pack outlining its plans for each library in the city, announced in-person consultation meetings for each library, and issued a new online survey. Stirchley’s consultation meeting is next Wednesday 4th September 10.30am-12pm.

Option 1 and Option 2 from the original consultation document have been dropped, Option 3 and 4 remain with more detail about what this will mean for individual libraries.

Under Option 3 Stirchley Library will close. This is unthinkable and must be strongly opposed.

Change to Stirchley Library opening hours

Birmingham City Council has announced that Stirchley Library will be closing for a further day each week from 22nd July. They have described libraries as being in a ‘transitional period’, and advised that a reduced number of available community library staff means a temporary timetable needs to be introduced for the majority of libraries during the summer which will see them close for an additional day each week.

From 22nd July Stirchley Library will be closed on Thursdays, leaving only two days a week of BCC-staffed library provision (Tuesdays and Saturdays). Kings Norton and Kings Heath libraries will also be …

Birmingham Libraries consultation

We just wanted to remind everyone that the deadline for completing the Birmingham libraries consultation survey is Wednesday 17th July. The survey is available on the Be Heard website

The survey is rather long, but we really encourage everyone to complete it. If you need any support we recommend reading the unofficial guide available on the Birmingham Loves Libraries website.

Unofficial guide to the BCC libraries consultation

We wanted to let you know that an unofficial guide to the Birmingham City Council libraries consultation is now available on the Birmingham Loves Libraries website. We encourage everyone to read and use the guide to help them complete the consultation survey. The guide discusses the Council’s proposals and concerns with those proposals before explaining the different sections of the survey.

The Birmingham Loves Libraries website also has a number of other useful resources available, inlcuding posters to download, and they are also sharing updates on social media platforms.
