Unofficial guide to the BCC libraries consultation

We wanted to let you know that an unofficial guide to the Birmingham City Council libraries consultation is now available on the Birmingham Loves Libraries website. We encourage everyone to read and use the guide to help them complete the consultation survey. The guide discusses the Council’s proposals and concerns with those proposals before explaining the different sections of the survey.

The Birmingham Loves Libraries website also has a number of other useful resources available, inlcuding posters to download, and they are also sharing updates on social media platforms.

Libraries Awareness Walk – thank you!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Libraries Awareness Walk! Here are some of the photos taken on the day. Thank you to everyone who came for some or all of the walk, to the writers and artists who shared readings along the way and the supporters who greeted the walkers at their final destination! Thanks also to the Bisque and Bean Cafe for hosting the banner making workshop and library staff and volunteers who put on activities during lunchtime.

Libraries Awareness Walk – 11th May

A consortium consisting of Stirchley Art Room, Friends of Stirchley Library and Number 11 Arts are going to be holding the first in a series of Library Awareness Walks on Saturday 11th May. 

The consortium felt that citizens must be made aware of the proposed cuts to library services in the region, and the idea of Library Awareness Walks was formed. Partnerships have been made with local artists, organisations and individuals to develop activities before, during and after the walks to raise awareness of the situation that the citizens of Birmingham are finding themselves in.

New Save Stirchley Library campaign

At the meeting we shared that there is now a separate dedicated campaign group called Save Stirchley Library. This campaign will link in to a larger campaign for all Birmingham libraries which will shortly be launched. AGM and public discussion on the proposed library cuts

FOSL would like to invite everyone who cares about Stirchley Library, and the future of all of Birmingham’s libraries, to our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday 13th April. In addition to updating everyone on the work of Friends of Stirchley Library, and providing information on how people can get involved, there will be a discussion held on the proposed cuts to library services in Birmingham. The meeting will be held between 2pm-4pm in Stirchley Community Church, and refreshments will be provided. All welcome!
